3 Reasons Why We Love the Staff and Pastors at Our Temecula Church
You’ve probably heard people say something along the lines of, “A church is not a building. It’s the people.” The book of Acts describes the early church as people who “…devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42). The church was never supposed to be about the building, or even about the weekly event that we tend to refer to as “going to church.” It’s about the people.
In this blog post, we wanted to talk about some of the people who faithfully lead our church body as part of our staff.
In Ephesians 2:11-13, we are told that “Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” This passage describes the role of our pastors—the ones who teach on Sundays, as well as those who lead ministries at Sunridge.
If you attend our church regularly, you are very familiar with our teaching pastors, but there are other pastors, as well as people on our support staff, doing a ton of behind-the-scenes work. Much of what they do centers around making the Sunridge campus a place where people feel welcomed to come, worship the Lord, grow in their faith, and fellowship with one another.
Here are just a few of the things our staff does to support the congregation at Sunridge:
• Plan and execute all aspects of our Sunday services, as well as mid-week services for our students
• Create an environment where children are safe and cared for as they learn about Jesus
• Organize Bible studies and small groups in which people can grow in their faith alongside one another
• Recruit and train people to serve in various ministries
• Keep our building clean and well maintained
• Manage all gifts and offerings prayerfully and responsibly
This is just a short list of the things our staff and pastors are tasked with. They do many things (even some things outside of their job descriptions) to ensure everything runs smoothly and that the people of Sunridge are well cared for and equipped for ministry.
They are very good at their jobs, but that’s not the only reason we love our staff at Sunridge. Here are three other reasons why we love and appreciate our staff and pastors:
The Love Jesus
Every person on our staff loves Jesus and desires to serve Him. They aren’t perfect (and none of them would claim to be), but they are seeking to follow Jesus—both at work and in their personal lives.
While you would expect that pastors and ministry leaders at a church would be sincere followers of Jesus, not all churches require this of their support staff. However, at Sunridge, we believe it’s important that everyone who has a part in professionally supporting our Temecula church be committed to the cause of helping people find and follow Jesus—and they are!
They Work Hard to Keep Things Running Efficiently
Running a church the size of Sunridge is no easy task! If you stop by the Sunridge office during the week, you’ll notice that it is buzzing with activity at all times! You’ll see pastors studying and preparing their sermons, our maintenance staff fixing and cleaning things all over campus, meetings taking place, people being counseled, and so much more.
The staff at Sunridge is smaller than the staff at many churches of comparable size, but what they lack in numbers, they make up for in hard work. Our team is able to accomplish so much by contributing their ideas, skills, and labor to make things happen.
All of them could likely make more money working outside of the church environment, but they choose to faithfully serve our congregation as members of our staff.
So, the next time you are enjoying a Sunday service, a mid-week group, or a church event, say a prayer of thanks for the team who helped make it possible through their hard work!
Their Dedication Is Inspiring
A good portion of the people on the Sunridge team (both pastors and support staff) have been working at our Temecula church for more than a decade, and some of them were volunteers at our church long before that! In an era where people change jobs frequently (not to mention churches), we are so blessed to have a staff that is so dedicated to our church body!
But it’s not just our long-time staff members who are dedicated to their work. Those who are newer to the team have jumped right in and immediately started making an impact on the life of our church.
We believe you would be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated team of individuals anywhere!
We encourage you to get to know the staff at Sunridge if you don’t already. They are all great people, and we are so blessed to have them as part of our church. We would also encourage you to pray about ways in which you can support our team by volunteering your time. There are opportunities to serve in just about every area of ministry happening at Sunridge. Not only would your service bless our staff, but you will be blessed as well!
