I’m amazed at what people are doing with dominos now, besides playing the games that is. There is even a term for setting up dominos in order to knock them down in a fascinating fashion; they’re called, “domino tricks.” Evidently I’m not the only one who is fascinated; the first domino trick we showed in our services has almost 27 million views on YouTube. Twenty-seven million!
Sunridge’s Domino series is about influence. It’s about the perpetual energy released in a life devoted to fulfilling God’s calling. It’s about the eternal purposes of God and His intentional influence on the world from eternity past, and our ability to recognize that influence on us today. It’s about how important our actions and choices are today for the next generation of Christianity. And, it’s about the wonder of it all – the amazing, remarkable, wondrous God who designed the whole thing!
Just before ascending to the Father, Jesus’ tipped his domino onto the disciples in his last words, Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:19). Mark tells us that’s exactly what they did: Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere (Mark 16:20). The disciples tipped their dominos. The early church and the following Christians continued the perpetual energy of Jesus’ life by tipping their domino onto the next generation. The Apostle Paul wrote: Those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son (Romans 8:29). Could it be that all this domino tipping, so to speak, has been part of a masterful, eternal plan by God to redeem mankind? God’s foreknowledge and predestining pretty much sounds like an intentional plan, doesn’t it?
The idea that God has been planning my salvation since eternity past, that He put things in motion to conform me to the “likeness of his Son,” long before I or anyone else for that matter knew Him, is mind boggling. It leaves me wondering, and in wonder. It leaves me with a deep sense of appreciation for those who followed Christ before me. It gives me context. It sparks in me a sense of responsibility, a commitment to do likewise. It humbles me. It makes me want to tip my domino in order to keep this whole amazing thing called Christianity going! You too?
Something to think about.
