Being Christian in a culture that isn’t

Britt Sipe

The Church is becoming more and more isolated here in the West. Christians in America are finding they are no longer “center,” but are more often relegated to the fringe of society. Merriam-Webster says a counterculture is “a culture with values and mores that run counter to those of established society.” Is Christianity now a full-fledged counterculture? And if so, what do we do? Engage in culture wars? Retreat to safety? Or merely disappear through assimilation? The Apostle Peter’s first letter to believers in Asia Minor (modern Turkey) offers another way. Christians in the first century felt like “foreigners” and “exiles.” The Apostle’s guidance then remains true to being countercultural in the Jesus tradition today. Join us for Countercultural, a study of 1 Peter and how to live Christian in a culture that isn’t.
