Break the Fast with Soup & Bread – Good Friday April 18 in the Youth Room 6:30-7:15pm
Concert of Worship & Prayer in the Worship Center 7:15-9:00pm
Our five-day fast will culminate in breaking the fast with a potluck supper on Friday of soup and bread in the Youth Room from 6:30-7:15pm and then a Good Friday Concert of Worship & Prayer in the Worship Center from 7:15-9:00pm. Pastor Jed will lead the worship — and this is certainly a kid-friendly event, so bring them along.
We will consider the death of Jesus and anticipate the Resurrection. The evening will also serve as a night to acknowledge our past as a church and dedicate ourselves to the future God has in store for Sunridge.
Fasting Basics
There are many different ways to fast. We can fast food and just drink water or juice, we can eat vegetables and/or fruit only (sometimes referred to as a “Daniel Fast,” see Daniel 1:8-17), we can choose not to eat any sugar or desserts, we can fast one or two meals a day, we can fast from sun-up to sun-down. We can fast hobbies or different forms of technology including television and social media. The idea is to give ourselves to “listening prayer” [1] when we would normally be engaging in whatever activity we are fasting. Seek the Lord regarding what would be appropriate for you to fast.
What Are We Fasting For?
Three possibilities:
- Personal breakthroughs (for yourself or a close family member).
- For people to FIND and FOLLOW Jesus at Sunridge on Easter and the weeks following.
- Our lead pastor search.
[1] Listening Prayer is spending time with Jesus in a dialogue where we express our heart but also wait and listen for His gentle whisper (see 1 Kings 19:11-13).
