Why Churches in Temecula, California Like Sunridge Host Community Events Like Trunk or Treat
Have you ever wondered why Sunridge and other churches in Temecula, California host Trunk or Treat events on their campuses every fall? It’s not just about giving Temecula families an alternative to the activities that are typically associated with Halloween (although that is part of it). At Sunridge, we have some very specific reasons why we put our time and energy into this event year after year.
Welcoming the Community to Our Temecula Church Campus in a Different Way
There are many people in Temecula who may not feel completely comfortable coming to a church service on a Sunday, or even sending their kids to a vacation bible school-type program during the summer. Other families might not know that they can visit our church at any time—no special invitation needed!
We use Trunk or Treat as a way to extend an invitation to everyone in the community to pay a visit to our Temecula church.
At an event like Trunk or Treat, parents can stay with their kids the whole time. They can get a feel for the layout of our campus in a more casual environment. They can meet some of the awesome people who attend our church, and they can learn more about what our church has to offer for families in Temecula and the surrounding area. And they can do all of this at a fun, free event where their kids are sure to have a great time!
Trunk or Treat is about telling everyone in the area that they are welcome at our Temecula church!
Another Way to Serve the Special Needs Community in Temecula
At Sunridge, we also use our Trunk or Treat event as a way to serve those in our community who have children with special needs. Activities like trick-or-treating in a neighborhood or attending a fall carnival may not be options for children who tend to get overstimulated easily, or who need a little extra patience and care shown to them. However, we believe children with special needs should still have the opportunity to experience these types of typical fun fall events. That’s why we open up our Trunk or Treat event early exclusively for families with special needs. For the first 45 minutes of the event, these families can have special access to all the games, activities, and candy collecting in a less crowded and noisy setting.
Of course, these families are welcome to stay for the rest of the event as well! At Sunridge, children with special needs are always welcome, and we do our best to accommodate those with varying abilities.
If you are someone who regularly attends Sunridge, be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to attend Trunk or Treat. This year, it will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Festivities start at 5:45 PM for families with special needs, and then the event opens up to the general public from 6:15-7:45 PM. If you haven’t yet signed up to help, we can still use more people to decorate the trunks of their cars and hand out candy. We can also use volunteers for other parts of the event—such as setup/cleanup, running the games, or welcoming visitors. And of course, we will be accepting donations of individually wrapped candy up until the day of the event!

I just want to express my appreciation for what you and all the members of your church do for our special needs children.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and appreciation with us. While our mission is to help people find and follow Jesus, our vision is to deepen faith, bring hope, and live love. Setting aside time during our Trunk or Treat event for families with special needs is our way of living love.
