At Sunridge Community Church, we’re spending the summer living love loudly. We’re using these cards to share random acts of kindness because we want to make a difference in our community, no matter how small.
I went to my local mechanic to see if I could pay for an oil change or smog. To my surprise, they didn’t have any scheduled, but informed me of a customer who was struggling financially and couldn’t pay for their brake job. It was such a thrill to hand them some money to go toward their bill and a “LIVE LOVE LOUD” card. Praying this person sees God’s love.
I was in Ralph’s and God put it on my heart to purchase a $100 gift card for a friend in dire financial need. I wrestled with it a little and then finally decided that I would do that! Seconds later I ran into a different friend, and she greeted me enthusiastically and said, “I’ve been thinking about you and the charity organization you’re a part of and I want to make a donation!” She pulled out her checkbook and wrote a check on the spot for …$100! You can’t outgive God!
I honestly was a bit nervous to do this and I wasn’t sure why. I think it was because I was trying to make it something it wasn’t, trying to fill a need or make a grand gesture. I woke up this morning and prayed that God would offer an opportunity for me to simply show love and, of course, He did! I was in Target at the checkout line and as I was walking away I heard a sweet little lady ask the checker about some shirts she was buying that were 2 for $10. She had 5 of them and wanted to know if the fifth would be $5. I heard the checker say no, the shirt would be $8 and she told him then she wouldn’t get the 5th shirt. I felt the nudge to pay for her 5th shirt, looked in my wallet and, yes, I had $8 cash. So I went back and told her I’d like to pay for her 5th shirt. She, of course, was surprised and didn’t understand, but finally smiled and said, “Really?” And then thank you with a big smile. Although I know she could have gone without the shirt, it’s fun to think about her maybe telling her story to family when she gets home. It’s fun to just make someone’s day by doing something unexpected. I’m thankful for the opportunity. And so thankful for Sunridge.

This is Our Summer of Love
We’re spending the summer talking about love. Living a life of love, sharing that love, and meeting the needs of people in our community. In Ephesians 5:2, Paul instructs us to live a life of love, just as Christ loved us. Pretty simple, right?
Have you noticed how the rhetoric today just keeps getting louder and louder? We try to make our points over and over. And yet, no one is listening. At Sunridge, we think love should be louder than our differences, louder than rhetoric. Instead of making a point, we’d like to make a difference. We’re not perfect, but we’re working to impact our community in positive ways, and be a church that’s welcoming and inclusive.
Do you want to be part of a church that’s making a difference and impacting the community? Join us this Sunday!
We know it’s hard to be new. But there are people on the lookout for you, and we hope that you find our welcome to be genuine. We really are glad to have you here! Learn more about what to expect …
